Our fight against AB5 knows no political party.

We at The People v. AB5 want everyone to understand who we are and why we have a dog in this fight. Fellow Democrats and other liberals have understandably expressed hesitation to join our cause, This is understandable. AB5 appears to be a Democratic initiative that generally advances liberal causes, and it therefore appears that fighting AB5 is therefore necessarily a Republican thing to do. Until you look under the hood it’s hard to realize that nothing could be further from the truth.

We’ll dissect all of that in future articles but for now we want you to know who we are and why AB5 matters to us.

We are California’s freelance and creative class. Nothing more and nothing less.
None of us have any ties to any political movement, corporation, or organization, nor are we being funded or motivated by any sort of secret or dark money. (On the contrary; as of April 6, 2020, we’re funding this movement with our personal credit cards.) We are stunned and blindsided by our leaders’ lack of attention to the effects of the law that they have passed. We realize and acknowledge that those “leaders” are Democrats, and we’re going to be issuing plenty more content that addresses what we’re learning about the California Democratic Party and what led them to enact the mess that is AB5 into law. But we’re going to do it intelligently and we’re going to tread lightly, because The People v. AB5 is not about demonizing one political party at the expense of another. If we do that, we’re going to alienate half our base, and we’re never going to get AB5 repealed.

Whatever your political leanings, we invite you to join us in building our broad, non-partisan coalition against AB5. Start by joining our Facebook group and our email list. Ask questions and start conversations about AB5 to help clarify your understanding of it so that you can spread the word to everyone on both sides of the aisle that AB5 is bad news for all of California.

I have left several groups against AB5 because they all turn into a political battlefield. I am hoping to get information without emotions and without targeting a political party, or worse targeting and singling out one person.
